June 11: Is the mold on the outside or the inside?

We accomplished much today. Jeff and Trevor came in on the same flight - it was great to see them. Three of the four permits arrived in the mail, and Josh will bring the 4th with him when he flies in from Juneau on Sunday. The waders arrived - about a week late, but soon enough. And Luka came in on the evening flight.

We collected the old red truck after having the brakes repaired and brought down three big totes of food after collecting Jeff and Trevor. Trevor set about opening the remaining cabins while Jeff fixed the canopy on the truck - the back window's hydraulic lift wasn't doing its job, and I made us lunch. Mark, my wonderful next door neighbor - who has been my next door neighbor since 1969 - brought us a salmon. So it was roasted salmon and potatoes. (Except that the oven wouldn't get hot enough and ran out of propane besides. So after changing out the propane, I fried it.)

Here are the two trucks full of stuff that has to come up those very high stairs. I began to feel like the cliff is about 10' too high. That's when I get tired and my legs start to feel wobbly. But it doesn't matter how wobbly my legs feel, I still have to carry the load to the top.
We got as much up the cliff as we could before it was time to go pick up Luka. On the way in, we went by SeaMar where they had 5 boxes of fishing supply stuff for us, including a new powerpack for the roller on the Bathtub (photos to follow). Luka had a long flight - from Boston to Seattle, then to Anchorage and then into King Salmon.

We didn't have to spend much time in town - just dropped off the powerpack at Roy's shop and headed down to the cabin. A fog had come up - this is fog over the tundra.

None of us had the energy to bring up the rest of the stuff from the back of the truck. It'll wait for us. We just concentrated on putting away the food we had hauled up - and there was lots of it. As we cleaned out the shelves preparing for the new food, we had to decide whether to keep or pitch some of the leftovers from last year. If the mold is on the inside, out it goes. If it's only on the outside and can be washed off, we wash it off and keep it.

Jeff will go in with me to collect Rohan in the morning. Big Brad from AGS asked us to take a friend's truck to the airport so it'll be waiting for him when he arrives later in the day. Jeff volunteered to drive it. I checked the tide book to see when we could go out an look for screw anchors - and maybe get some buoys out. It was lucky that I happened to check it because I noticed the much more important fact that Rohan will be arriving at about high water. No big deal, except we'd need to get our truck across the creek about an hour before high water. We wouldn't be able to do that because the tide would be too high. So at the last minute tonight, we needed to run the truck down to the other side of the creek so we'll be able to use it in the morning. And this is what we saw on the way home.
