June 16 2016: Sarah's here!

The day started with sadness. The baby seal didn't make it. We tried to make sure his body wouldn't be ravaged by birds or attract bears. Despite that, we have seen some bear tracks - it looks like a momma with a cub. We take the bears very seriously. All will be well if we can avoid surprising each other. So we make it our business to go about loudly.

In the day's happy news, Sarah came in on an evening flights! It was such a good way to end the day. We got no fish on the morning tide (I think we were feeding the seals). In the afternoon, we got a couple, including two jack kings (those are the kind of small ones). The one in our boat was beautiful and I wrestled with myself about keeping it or letting it go. I like to let one or two early fish go if they seem well enough to survive. The king would have been a good choice, but I lost the wrestling match and kept it.

We pulled in the nets after the afternoon tide because fishing was scheduled to close on the next morning tide, so it made sense to us to pull them on this tide. Then most of the crew headed into town. David was determined to meet Sarah and the rest of the crew had visions of doing some laundry, taking showers and filling up our jugs of drinking water. We try to make the trips to town count, but that also makes them take a long time.

The crew had a little bonfire at the end of the day and Oksanna got some really good photos of the fire in the sunset.
